Peonies are probably my favourite garden flowers, but they are also among the most difficult to paint. They require a lot of patience because of their numerous petals and their subtle shadings. I am very happy with this painting. The colours are strong even if they are for a delicate flower. I like the variations in the leaves, especially the turquoise touch I added. The very dark background makes the flowers and the leaves pop! This is a painting that will make a strong impact in spite of its modest size.
It has been painted with fine professional grade oil paints. It is varnished, wired at the back and the sides are painted black.The painting is initialed on the front and signed on the back.
